A proven leader, dedicated public servant, and accomplished professional public manager, Jerry Cooper brings over 30 years of invaluable public service experience to the table.  

Since becoming County Manager of Cherokee County in April 2001, Jerry has received recognition for leadership, transparency and ethics in government, and fiscal stewardship. As the County’s Chief Operating Officer, Jerry is responsible for the leadership and management of an organization with over 1,500 employees and an annual budget of over $295 million.

Mr. Cooper brings over 30 years of invaluable public service experience to the post, and continues to pursue a set of clearly defined priorities that reflect his philosophy of reducing the burden on taxpayers and shrinking the size of government, while providing superior customer service. 

Jerry, originally from Arkansas, has a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas. Jerry is also a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at Cornell University, the Conservative Policy Leadership Institute (CPLI), the Regional Leadership Institute (RLI), and has earned the recognition of “Credentialed Manager” by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).

Jerry is a member of many community organizations, including currently serving as Chairman of Reinhardt University President’s Advisory Council, and on the Board of Directors of the Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, and Cherokee County Educational Foundation.  Jerry and his wife, Sherry, live in Cobb County and have been happily married over 23 years.
