Commission Chairman, L.B. Ahrens, Jr. began his first term on the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners January of 2007 and was re-elected in 2010, and again in 2014. After his third term, he retired in December of 2018. Chairman Ahrens sat on several community boards and organizations in the County, as well as in Metro Atlanta.
Prior to his election, Mr. Ahrens spent his business career in the global marketplace providing profit & loss leadership, building brands, and providing strategic direction within the consumer products industry. This expertise included start-ups as well as large operating companies. During his career, he and his family lived in Brazil, Hong Kong, and Europe for about 15 years. Mr. Ahrens worked as Senior Vice President International and Corporate Officer reporting to Chairman and CEO of Rubbermaid, Inc. as well as Vanity Fair Corporation – Greensboro, North Carolina and President of Europe Jeanswear and Asia-Pacific.
Chairman Ahrens graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He is a graduate of the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management, and of The George Washington University earning his Master of Business Administration in International Business (MBA) in 1970 while on active military duty.
Chairman Ahrens has been married to his wife, Joan, for 56 years and they have four children and four grandchildren.
